Gandhinagar is the capital city of Gujarat, established as a modernized twin city for Ahmedabad. Located on the banks of the River Sabarmati, the city remains the administrative centre of Gandhinagar and Gujarat. Several institutes of international and national repute are located in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, including the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), the National Institute of Design (NID), the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), LD Institute of Indology, the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT), the Space Applications Centre (SAC) of the Indian Space Research Organization, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) etc.

GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City), located near Gandhinagar, is a rapidly growing financial and technology hub. Spread across 886 acres, it is India’s first operational smart city and international financial services center. GIFT City aims to provide world-class infrastructure, attracting global companies in sectors such as banking, insurance, and IT services. It also offers residential, commercial, and social amenities, making it a significant milestone in India's urban development and economic growth.

In addition to its distinction as a Knowledge Corridor, Gandhinagar (including Ahmedabad, the commercial capital of Gujarat) boasts numerous attractions. Notable places to visit in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad include the Siddi Sayyed Jali, Jumma Masjid, Gujarat Science City, Akshardham (Gandhinagar), Law Garden Market, Vaishnodevi Temple, Kankaria Lake, Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project, Sarkhej Roja, Adalaj Wav, Rani Sipri Mosque, Iskcon Temple, Sola Temple, CG Road, Gandhi Ashram (Sabarmati), and the Calico Museum of Textiles (Shahibaugh).

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and the railway station, both located in Ahmedabad, remain within easy reach from Gandhinagar (about a 25 minutes drive to the airport, and approximately 50 minutes drive to the main railway station, popularly known as Kalupur Railway Station). The airport now has enhanced international connectivity, with direct flights to Europe, the USA, and the Middle East, accommodating the growing international traffic.

Apart from the monsoon season, the climate of Gandhinagar remains dry for most of the year, with a pleasant winter season. The maximum temperature ranges between 36°C (97°F) and 44°C (111°F), while the minimum ranges from 7°C (44°F) to 22°C (72°F). From November to February, the average maximum temperature is around 28°C (82°F), and the average minimum is 15°C (59°F). While the monsoon season brings occasional heavy rainfall between mid-June and mid-September, the climate remains mostly hot throughout the year.
